"The Wide Window" continues the story of the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, after they are sent to a new guardian, Aunt Josephine. Although not a true aunt, Aunt Josephine takes them in. She is a woman crippled by numerous fears, including doorknobs and realtors, but her biggest fear is Lake Lachrymose, where her husband Ike sadly drowned. The Baudelaire children quickly recognize the disguised villain, Count Olaf, who appears as "Captain Sham" to track them down, though Aunt Josephine remains oblivious.
