Cemetery Boys

A trans boy named Yadriel, determined to prove his gender to his traditional Latinx family, summons a ghost who refuses to leave. Yadriel should have gone through his quinces ceremony at 15, but his family's difficulty in accepting his gender identity has led to a denial of him as a brujo. Now 16, Yadriel performs the quinces on his own, gaining his brujo powers. To prove himself, he attempts to summon the ghost of his recently deceased cousin, Miguel, but instead calls forth Julian Diaz, a boy from his school who doesn't remember how he died. The two must work together to solve Julian's murder, all while Yadriel hides Julian from his family. This young adult urban fantasy novel by Aiden Thomas, published in 2020, explores themes of family dynamics, grief, and identity.
