    Description

Stephen King's 1977 horror novel, "The Shining," follows Jack Torrance, a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic, who takes a job as the off-season caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He brings his wife, Wendy, and son, Danny. Danny possesses "the shine," a precognitive ability, which makes him a target for the evil supernatural forces residing in the hotel. As a winter storm snows them in, the Overlook exploits Jack's weaknesses and influences his sanity, putting Wendy and Danny in grave danger. The book was followed by a sequel, "Doctor Sleep," published in 2013, and has been adapted into both a film and a TV miniseries.
